Bird Boy: The Forgotten Children
Friday Nov 11, 2022
Friday Nov 11, 2022
Back with our regularly scheduled programming....BIRD BOY, the cartoon I know I needed when I was a child. Other important tidbits: Curtis' obsession with Roadhouse; The Northman: The Musical; superheroes - we're digging into it friends. Enjoy. We love you.
00:00 - 13:40ish Intros: Happy post Halloween! We discuss how we always assume we’ve all made it to the release of these since we record them in advance so naturally we talk about who might die first! Lucas has exploits and we discuss how we’re feeling about being in the THICK of Halloween.
13:40ish - 53:35ish What we watched! Surprisingly few things because we were prepping for October… Cody watched Shang Chi (and please pardon Curtis doing Curtis things and going over his 10 favorite super-movies and we talk about how small directors get big gigs so it’s all still pretty interesting we hope!), Austin watched Titane and one episode of Rings of Power, Lucas watched The Shining, Curtis also watched Titane, Demons, and Road House (one of the best movies ever made), and then Cody and Lucas went and saw The Northman: The Musical aka Heilung!
53:45ish - 1:31:30ish Bird Boy: The Forgotten Children - SHUDdown and discussion
1:31:30ish - End - Our next movie!

Halloween
Friday Oct 28, 2022
Friday Oct 28, 2022
It’s here. The day and episode you’ve all been waiting for: HALLOWEEN. Enjoy the culmination of your spooky season with John Carpenter’s classic that started it all. This is the first title we’ve double covered, having done a deep, deep dive into the Halloween series during our inaugural HallowStream in 2020 but dammit this one deserves it! Listen as we unpack what this movie and what John Carpenter in general mean to us and our lives because, let’s face it, without this movie none of us may not even be here. Like, figuratively…
00:00 - 37:20ish Intros: We dive into AI art, people that think we sound the same (do we? Really, we wanna know), opinions on candy corn and our favorite Halloween candies, and Spooky Season watchlists.
37:20ish - Recent watches! Barbarian, Pearl, Hellraiser (1987) & Hellraiser 2 (35mm American Cinematheque), She-Hulk, Falcon and the Winter Soldier (we know, Curtis was catching up), Marianne, Who Invited Them?, Trick ‘r Treat (be prepared for a lot of this this month), Spider-Man 3, Mortal Kombat (2021), Pearl, Men (Austin got to it!), Get Out (Austin’s dad had never seen!), X, You’re Next, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Jaws (in 3D, not Jaws 3D), The Hateful Eight Extended Edition,
1:16:20ish - 1:27:00ish A nice discussion of how people approach movies and discuss them and the differences we have with each other. A NICE discussion (also Lucas watched Nope again)!
1:27:00ish - 2:21:00ish HALLOWEEN (1978) - SHUDdown and discussion.
2:21:00ish - End Our next movie!

Prince of Darkness
Friday Oct 21, 2022
Friday Oct 21, 2022
We take a step a week back in time as the October SHUDcast Shuntathon continues! Before we decided to give you a full slate of episodes in October, we selected Prince of Darkness to cover and release unknowingly on its 35th anniversary! Happy birthday to this underrated gem from our favorite master of horror!
00:00 - 24:00ish Intros: What constitutes a “staff pick” being displayed in our homes and Crash vs Cannibal Holocaust.
24:00ish - 57:00ish What we watched this time: The Tenant, Goosebumps, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Beetlejuice, The Third Saturday in October Part V and Part I (it’s a weird one, I guess), Glorious, Black Roses, Manhunter, May the Devil Take You Too, Spider-Man 2 (aka the best superhero movie ever made), Predator 2 (Curtis caught up), The Gray Man (it’s fine!), Day Shift, The Relic, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Beast, The Black Phone, Prey (in Comanche), The Boy, and GoT: HoTD.

The Thing
Friday Oct 14, 2022
Friday Oct 14, 2022
Whoa! Time jump! Spoilers for the end of the episode you were SUPPOSED to get before this one. We went ahead and selected John Carpenter’s The Thing, thus rounding out his Apocalypse Trilogy. We loved the poetry of releasing Prince of Darkness on the actual 35th anniversary of the film (something we honestly didn’t plan for before finding that out) so much that we decided to keep that release schedule and bump this one up a week in your month long October SHUDcast Shuntathon! Make sense? No? All good.
00:00 - 10:20ish Intros: Austin went to Alaska (aka the most Cody place ever), and it was very hot in September and we complain about it.
10:20ish - 1:05:35ish What we watched since the last time: Dark Skies, Barry, Bodies Bodies Bodies (Lucas x2), Sorry to Bother You, Looper, Haunt, Joker (the room splits right down the f*ckin middle), Orphan & Orphan: First Kill, Three Thousand Years of Longing, Jaws (Curtis went twice in the theater!), Tumbbad, Jungle, Brockmire, Cody watched 16 MCU flicks because he watched them in chronological (story) order, The Watcher, The Jordan Peele filmography, The Satanic Rites of Dracula, Men, The Invitation (2022), Beast, The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, and GoT: HoTD.
1:05:35ish - 2:07:20ish John Carpenter’s THE THING - Shiny new SHUDdown and discussion (and also the 2001 prequel, inexplicably also called THE THING)
2:07:20ish - End Our next movie after our October onslaught!

In The Mouth Of Madness
Thursday Oct 06, 2022
Thursday Oct 06, 2022
Welcome to the spookiest of seasons, kind friends and patrons! We know you know that all year is spooky season but we’re now in the thick of the time where hopefully we can wear sweaters and stuff while we do our spooky bidding. This intro to October brings you the first in a series of films that we’ll be releasing EACH WEEK during the month! That’s right, a SHUDcast a week keeps your ears super bleak (but like in a good way). We kick it off here with… some pretty typical oddball talk up front but bring everything home with John Carpenter’s IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS — the final entry in the unofficial “Apocalypse Trilogy”. Season’s Screamings to all!
00:00 - 22:40ish Intros: Cody learns of the existence of ‘Natural Harvest’, Curtis brings Skyline Chili back from Ohio, and Austin plans surprise revenge against Cody.
22:40ish - 1:08:20ish What we watched these weeks! Jaws (Austin’s wife, Kaylin, had never seen it), The Ruins, Mimic, Edward Scissorhands, Hatching, RRR (Austin finally did it), Bodies Bodies Bodies (Lucas was the first one to get to this but stay tuned because we all get to it), The Boys (Cody finished it, it’s the best show maybe ever), Scary Movie, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Bullet Train, Here Comes Hell, The Predator, Predators (Cody clarifies that he did Curtis dirty), AvP and AvP: Requiem, Hellboy (2019 – Curtis did a rewatch), Predator, , Spider-Man (2002), Nope (Curtis took his parents!), Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, and….
1:08:20ish - 1:27:00ish PREY (we loved it so much we went a little deep)
1:27:00ish - 2:09:30ish IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS - SHUDdown and discussion
2:09:30ish - End - Our next movie!

The Sadness / Nope
Friday Sep 23, 2022
Friday Sep 23, 2022
It’s a great day to be Sad at the SHUDcast and not because Cody watched a bunch of erotic vampire movies and talks at length about them. We’re entering your spooky season from the comforts of MidSommar where we watched a whole bunch of stuff, including a bonus title we go hard on – Jordan Peele’s NOPE. Spoilers, we f*cking loved it. But stick around (or just check the show notes below) because we go even harder on this week’s film, THE SADNESS. But not, like, in a weird way. We hope…
00:00 - 11:00ish Intros: Cody talks about his favorite movie ever made and how it’s also not his favorite by that director (bc logic), how many times Curtis has watched certain movies, and how Lucas has a shirt for literally every weird occasion you could ask for.
11:00ish - 1:19:00ish What we watched in late July: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Batman (x10 this year for ol’ Lucas), RRR (AGAIN, THIS TRAIN KEEPS ROLLIN’ BABY), Beyond the Black Rainbow, F9: The Fast Saga, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Thor: Love and Thunder (which we all saw), They Live, Poltergiest (1982), Cronos, Us, Hell Fest, The Strangers: Prey at Night, The Ring (2002), The Ring 2, Predator 2, Predators (which Cody and Curtis have weird beef over, bc the movie is great), The Burning, Living Dead at Manchester Morgue, The House on Sorority Row, The Blood-spattered Bride, Tombs of the Blind Dead, The Deadly Spawn, Hellboy, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Hellboy (2019 – Cody had a time, friends), Head of the Family, Bloody Hell, Burnt Offerings, Daughters of Darkness, Vampyros Lesbos, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle, Final Destination, Shin Godzilla, The Bob’s Burgers Movie, 1BR, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (again), Bahubali 1 & 2 (Curtis needed more Rajamouli), Before Sunset, Rogue, Orca, The Ruins, The Shallows, Mosquito, 47 Meters Down, and NOPE (whoooooooooooo boyyyyyyy what a film).
1:19:00ish - We go a little hard and a little long on Jordan Peele’s latest, so strap in and be warned, spoilers are abound.
- 2:30:00ish THE SADNESS - SHUDdown and discussion
2:30:00ish - End - Our next movie!

The Medium
Friday Sep 09, 2022
Friday Sep 09, 2022
We’re getting spooky this week, folks. Journey back to Curtis’ Beyond Fest 2021 screening series as we take on: our first guest to the Fungeon, the beginnings of our Summer watchings, more RRR love, and finally, the Thai found-footage creepfest, THE MEDIUM.
00:00 - 23:00ish Intros: We’re interrupted early on by our first ever guest to the Fungeon, the lovely and incomparable Mattie Schnieders to tell us that she’s… been listening to another podcast. Lucas had his Tarot read, and we went through a national holiday that didn’t feel very patriotic featuring a lot of extremely LA talk (shocker, we know).
23:00ish - 1:07:00ish What we watched this week (mixed with holdover 4th of July talk) Top Gun: Maverick (again again), Jurassic World: Dominion (Cody is the only one who has done this), The Black Phone, Insidious (who Cody subjected his horror-averse buddy Dennis to. Thank you and we’re sorry, Dennis), Night of the Demon, Mimic, Final Destination 1&2, You’re Next, Ghoul, Dark Waters, Evil Dead 2 (we watch this movie a lot, folks), Eight Legged Freaks, Elvis, Stranger Things S4, Jaws, Crawl, Return of the Living Dead, RRR (Lucas finally finished and can yell along with Curtis and Cody!), The Batman (Lucas for the NINTH time), Turning Red, and The Bear.
1:07:00ish - 2:01:00ish - THE MEDIUM - SHUDdown and discussion
2:01:00ish - Our next movie announcement!

Mad God
Friday Aug 26, 2022
Friday Aug 26, 2022
Welcome back to the SHUDcast and boy do we have some gloopy deliciousness in stock for this one (and aside from our lives in general)! We get past some initial wildness as Cody forces us to watch the end of a hockey match during our recording (and of course we kept it in because who doesn’t want to hear us marvel at the oddness of our beloved Cody) and dig deep, deep, DEEP into the mind of one of our true artistic geniuses, Phil Tippet, with his stop-motion labor of love and all things bodily fluids: MAD GOD. Check it out and enjoy!
00:00 - 28:30ish Intros: Please excuse Cody as he makes us watch the ending of a hockey match as we open… but it highlights more of who he is as a lovely human being so bear with us. The boys experience weather for the first time, what it might be like to get old, Austin and Cody go to the Halsey show, our thoughts on other “pop acts”, Steve Albini and how music producers work, and Hollywood Bowl stuff.
28:30ish - 1:14:30ish What we watched this time: Errementari, Anaconda, Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight, Hustle, Shoresy, Alligator, Eyes of Fire, Stranger Things Season 4, Obi-Wan Kenobi, For All Mankind, Pain & Gain, Severance, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, Everything Everywhere All At Once (Austin finally took the plunge), and Jackass 4.5 (we contain multitudes).
1:14:30ish - 2:04:20 MAD GOD SHUDdown and discussion
2:04:20 - What we’re watching next time!

The Changeling
Friday Aug 12, 2022
Friday Aug 12, 2022
Welcome back! Our boys went on a tiny break in their recording schedule to travel the world, the Pacific Northwest, and their basements! With this now worldly knowledge the SHUD guys are excited to bring to you a bevy of things watched (including a new Cronenberg!) all leading up to the talk of a highly touted classic of the genre, THE CHANGELING. Tune in and see what the guys thought of this flick and if it does indeed deserve a spot on that shining Border’s Staff Pick in the sky.
00:00 - 19:30ish Intros: Fashun, how our incredibly successful podcast is doing thanks to you, Dear Listeners, Cody’s nightmares, pimping as shown in How High and the Friday franchise (*shrugs*), Austin went to Italy, Curtis went to Seattle and San Diego, Lucas went to Bend, Oregon and the Last Blockbuster, what it’s like to pick out movies when everything is available always, and night terrors.
19:30ish - 1:02:00ish What we watched this week: Bloodstone: Subspecies 2, Jennifer’s Body, Bloodlust: Subspecies 3, Hatching, Lake Placid, House of Wax (‘05), Bubba Ho-Tep, Firestarter (‘84), Firestarter (‘22), Men, Predator, The Bat (‘59), The Cave, Crimes of the Future, Jurassic Parks (all of them except the new one because we just can’t), Spencer, Good Will Hunting, The Void, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, Army of Darkness (Curtis needed it again), Point Break (‘91 Curtis really needed again), The Quick and The Dead, Watcher, Dracula Untold, RRR (the best movie of an already classic year according to Curtis), Top Gun Maverick, Room, Crimson Peak, Money Heist, The Ritual, Monsters, Lethal Weapon 4, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, The Batman (Austin likes it more now!), and Alien 3.
1:02:00ish - 1:39:00ish The Changeling SHUDdown and discussion (featuring a baseball interruption courtesy of Cody).
1:39:00ish - End: Our next movie!

Slapface
Friday Jul 29, 2022
Friday Jul 29, 2022
Well, at least we don’t cover any real animal deaths in this one. Only fake, cheap ones this week as we catch each other up on how well we think our show is doing (you tell us! Get a shoutout! Even if you hate it!), how we spent our Friday the 13ths, breaking news that the Evil Dead movies are genius and you should play the video game with us, and finally, a movie where Curtis has to remind everyone that making movies is indeed a very difficult process because, well, watch it for yourself – SLAPFACE!
00:00 - 18:00ish Intros - Cocktails that end with milk, human stew (the cannibal content really left a mark on us), which of our episodes get surprising amounts of listens (what’s your favorite and why is it Frankenhooker? We <3 you loons), and how birds most definitely are real.
18:00ish - 50:00ish What we watched this week: The Pentaverate, House of Gucci, Boogie Nights, Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse (enhanced, listen to find out how), Friday the 13th Parts II, III IV, and VI (it was an actual Friday the 13th as if we needed an excuse), The Northman (guess who watched THAT again), The Sadness, Halloween (‘78), Halloween (‘18), Halloween Kills, SUBSPECIES 2 (CURTIS DEMANDS RETRIBUTION), The Gift (‘00 Raimi), and Evil Dead 2.
50:00ish - 1:28:00ish SLAPFACE SHUDdown and discussion.
1:28:00ish - End - Next week’s movie selection and byyyyeeeee!
