Mad God
Friday Aug 26, 2022
Friday Aug 26, 2022
Welcome back to the SHUDcast and boy do we have some gloopy deliciousness in stock for this one (and aside from our lives in general)! We get past some initial wildness as Cody forces us to watch the end of a hockey match during our recording (and of course we kept it in because who doesn’t want to hear us marvel at the oddness of our beloved Cody) and dig deep, deep, DEEP into the mind of one of our true artistic geniuses, Phil Tippet, with his stop-motion labor of love and all things bodily fluids: MAD GOD. Check it out and enjoy!
00:00 - 28:30ish Intros: Please excuse Cody as he makes us watch the ending of a hockey match as we open… but it highlights more of who he is as a lovely human being so bear with us. The boys experience weather for the first time, what it might be like to get old, Austin and Cody go to the Halsey show, our thoughts on other “pop acts”, Steve Albini and how music producers work, and Hollywood Bowl stuff.
28:30ish - 1:14:30ish What we watched this time: Errementari, Anaconda, Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight, Hustle, Shoresy, Alligator, Eyes of Fire, Stranger Things Season 4, Obi-Wan Kenobi, For All Mankind, Pain & Gain, Severance, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, Everything Everywhere All At Once (Austin finally took the plunge), and Jackass 4.5 (we contain multitudes).
1:14:30ish - 2:04:20 MAD GOD SHUDdown and discussion
2:04:20 - What we’re watching next time!

The Changeling
Friday Aug 12, 2022
Friday Aug 12, 2022
Welcome back! Our boys went on a tiny break in their recording schedule to travel the world, the Pacific Northwest, and their basements! With this now worldly knowledge the SHUD guys are excited to bring to you a bevy of things watched (including a new Cronenberg!) all leading up to the talk of a highly touted classic of the genre, THE CHANGELING. Tune in and see what the guys thought of this flick and if it does indeed deserve a spot on that shining Border’s Staff Pick in the sky.
00:00 - 19:30ish Intros: Fashun, how our incredibly successful podcast is doing thanks to you, Dear Listeners, Cody’s nightmares, pimping as shown in How High and the Friday franchise (*shrugs*), Austin went to Italy, Curtis went to Seattle and San Diego, Lucas went to Bend, Oregon and the Last Blockbuster, what it’s like to pick out movies when everything is available always, and night terrors.
19:30ish - 1:02:00ish What we watched this week: Bloodstone: Subspecies 2, Jennifer’s Body, Bloodlust: Subspecies 3, Hatching, Lake Placid, House of Wax (‘05), Bubba Ho-Tep, Firestarter (‘84), Firestarter (‘22), Men, Predator, The Bat (‘59), The Cave, Crimes of the Future, Jurassic Parks (all of them except the new one because we just can’t), Spencer, Good Will Hunting, The Void, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, Army of Darkness (Curtis needed it again), Point Break (‘91 Curtis really needed again), The Quick and The Dead, Watcher, Dracula Untold, RRR (the best movie of an already classic year according to Curtis), Top Gun Maverick, Room, Crimson Peak, Money Heist, The Ritual, Monsters, Lethal Weapon 4, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, The Batman (Austin likes it more now!), and Alien 3.
1:02:00ish - 1:39:00ish The Changeling SHUDdown and discussion (featuring a baseball interruption courtesy of Cody).
1:39:00ish - End: Our next movie!

Slapface
Friday Jul 29, 2022
Friday Jul 29, 2022
Well, at least we don’t cover any real animal deaths in this one. Only fake, cheap ones this week as we catch each other up on how well we think our show is doing (you tell us! Get a shoutout! Even if you hate it!), how we spent our Friday the 13ths, breaking news that the Evil Dead movies are genius and you should play the video game with us, and finally, a movie where Curtis has to remind everyone that making movies is indeed a very difficult process because, well, watch it for yourself – SLAPFACE!
00:00 - 18:00ish Intros - Cocktails that end with milk, human stew (the cannibal content really left a mark on us), which of our episodes get surprising amounts of listens (what’s your favorite and why is it Frankenhooker? We <3 you loons), and how birds most definitely are real.
18:00ish - 50:00ish What we watched this week: The Pentaverate, House of Gucci, Boogie Nights, Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse (enhanced, listen to find out how), Friday the 13th Parts II, III IV, and VI (it was an actual Friday the 13th as if we needed an excuse), The Northman (guess who watched THAT again), The Sadness, Halloween (‘78), Halloween (‘18), Halloween Kills, SUBSPECIES 2 (CURTIS DEMANDS RETRIBUTION), The Gift (‘00 Raimi), and Evil Dead 2.
50:00ish - 1:28:00ish SLAPFACE SHUDdown and discussion.
1:28:00ish - End - Next week’s movie selection and byyyyeeeee!

Subspecies
Friday Jul 15, 2022
Friday Jul 15, 2022
It’s quite the big-release catch up week here at the SHUDcast as Curtis picks a marquee film that spoke to his childhood and apparently… well… you’ll hear about it. We go over some big titles that we quite enjoyed including one that, dare we say, changed the life of one of us (and also everyone seated around him during the film). So take a big long swig of ruby syrup from your Bloodstone and strap in for some wild genre discussion… and then also SUBSPECIES*!
*Shudder, if you can please manage to get Subspecies 2, Curtis vows to redeem himself.

Wake In Fright
Friday Jul 01, 2022
Friday Jul 01, 2022
Warning: Welp we did it twice in a row and we didn’t even realize it. We’re so sorry… but, horror!! Cody unknowingly selected a film of ill-repute (but wide acclaim) from the poisonous, everything-will-kill-you-including-the-booze-land of Australia, 1971’s WAKE IN FRIGHT. The film, while not as wildly torturous as Cannibal Holocaust, still features a scene about 4/5ths of the way through wherein many kangaroos are hunted and killed. The filmmakers claim that this was filmed on an already established and legal hunt (the kangaroos are apparently like deer in America, requiring a hunting season) but that still doesn’t make the events portrayed any less shocking. Not to mention one particular moment where a character literally fights and kills a kangaroo with his hands and I struggle to see the ways in which that falls under the legal claims the film makes but what have you… The film is wild and very interesting and we have some very (we think) interesting things to say about it. But sweet god… there is only beer in Australia.
So tune in for more of your typical shenanigans, including the introduction to Cody’s burgeoning excitement over having seen THE NORTHMAN, and stay for our in depth talk of some more challenging horror!
00:00 - 22:00ish Intros – Discrepancies between men’s and women’s pleasure products during the week we learned that Roe v. Wade was likely fucked (fuck you, Republicans), Cody’s pre-exhaltation at the alter of The Northman (stay tuned for this episodes long series where we wait for Austin to go see the flick), Curtis talks about the Dwayne Johnson that he used to love, and Vin Diesel and his reign over the Fast franchise.
22:00ish - 51:00ish What we watched this week: The Omen (1976), The Conjuring 2, Hereditary, Martyrs (2008), Livid, Mayhem, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, The Batman (yes, again for Curtis and FIVE MORE TIMES FOR LUCAS), THE NORTHMAN (twice for three of us), The Survivor, Jackass Forever (Austin & his dad), The Night House, The Brood, The King’s Man, Death on the Nile, In the Tall Grass, The Gift (2015), and Lethal Weapon.
51:00ish - 1:43:00ish - WAKE IN FRIGHT
1:43:00ish - End - What’s our next movie?

Cannibal Holocaust
Friday Jun 17, 2022
Friday Jun 17, 2022
WARNING: As horror fans and general mutant folk, there comes a time where we inevitably get to the outer edges of what is acceptable and conscionable in the realm of entertainment and media. And folks, like the warnings and disclaimers you’ve likely come across out in the wild regarding this movie, we are warning you here that we’re covering CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST. We encourage everyone to listen to our conversation taking all of the controversial grossness of this seminal found footage horror flick into account and make your own decision whether or not you’d like to check the movie out. We discuss the depicted atrocities including: rape, animal death and cruelty, and general insensitivity toward indigenous cultures.
But also! Before we get to that we shout out some fans, and discuss Cody’s arguably more atrocious take that Michael Bay has only made 3 watchable movies.
Let us know what you think! We’d love to hear if you’ve seen CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST before, if you plan to check it out, or if we should just ignore it forever.
00:00 - 15:30ish Intros: We rejoice at the thought of seeing The Northman (which rules) and how Cody is absolutely a Robert Eggers doppelganger, unintentional self-genital mutilation, Lucas’ birthday, and SHOUT OUT TO FAN KURT! (keep reaching out!).
15:30ish - 1:07:30ish What we watched this week! Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Devil’s Rain, Black Sabbath, Livid, Witchboard, Inventing Anna, The Righteous Gemstones, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and AmbuLAnce (and Cody says some sh*t here that sends Curtis through the proverbial rafters).
1:07:30ish - CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST SHUDdown and discussion.

Viy (1967)
Friday Jun 03, 2022
Friday Jun 03, 2022
You know what's stupid? 5 character podcast titles being a requirement.
Welcome back to the SHUDcast! This week is Lucas’ pick and boy is it somethin’. We’re staying in folk horror territory as we take our Bibles and stolen chickens to a nice lady on the Russian moors in the hopes that we can stay in the manger as we talk about the movie, VIY!
00:00 - 26:00ish Intros – Why we want to go to Alamo Drafthouse all the time, giving listeners the keys to The Meat Hanger, getting scared at Halloween Horror Nights and more hardcore haunts, what we’d do with our own Scare BnBs, the nature of horror in pornography, and what it’s like to try and save water and recycle in California vs Texas.
26:00ish - 50:00ish What we watched this week! Ghost Rider, You Won’t Be Alone, Jackass Forever (Cody and his dad), Death on the Nile, Tragedy Girls (mostly), In the Mood for Love, The VVitch, Jurassic Park, The Conjuring, Session 9, and Blade 2.
50:00ish - VIY SHUDdown and discussion!

Hellbender
Friday May 20, 2022
Friday May 20, 2022
As Winter death rattles into Spring and Summer licks its tasty chops eyeballing its oncoming vernal meal, so does the SHUDcast return with another ritualistic review. The boys put on their outdoor pants and go on a foraging mission to gather dried sticks and other detritus in order to properly discuss the SHUDDER Original, HELLBENDER. Along the way we discuss the evolution of COVID seasons, Austin’s trip to Broadway, and teach Cody a bevy of filmmaking techniques so he may ascertain this fine art of Cinema. Grab a dried fruit of your choice and hex the world around you as you dig in to this witchy episode!
00:00 - 13:30ish Intros. We discuss which season the show is in and how it probably lines up with COVID seasons, reminiscing on COVID season 1, and how the seafaring folk talked to us at Austin’s bachelor party.
13:30ish - 49:00ish What we watched this week! Halloween Kills (again and again), Stand By Me, The Brood (or at least partially), Blade Runner 2049, Kubo and the Two Strings (with some enhancement), Coraline, Everything Everywhere All At Once (the first of many you’ll hear about from us), Pig, The Gentlemen, Wrath of Man, The Lost City, Hellraiser, Hellraiser 2, Turning Red, Dark Shadows, and Yellowjackets. In other mediums, Cody went to a couple of concerts and saw AFI and Baroness while Austin went to actual Broadway and saw Dear Evan Hansen and Six, and Curtis went to fake Broadway with Joel Schumacher’s Phantom of the Opera.

The Wicker Man (1973)
Friday May 06, 2022
Friday May 06, 2022
Gather ‘round the Maypole, ye Summery lads and lasses as the SHUDcast takes a pilgrimage to pagan utopia and we discuss the 1973 classic, THE WICKER MAN. In this giant, wicker effigy-sized episode, which we recorded after a long hiatus (which you didn’t experience in our releasing schedule), we go over lots and lots and lots of fun titles that we caught up on as well as our long-awaited discussion (which was featured in our ShhhUDcast mini-ep recently) on Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN. In the middle of it all, we finally discover what Cody’s ultimate kink is and, frankly, we were all surprised and not at the same time. So settle in, grab your crisp, hallucinogenic beverage of choice, and go on this journey of discovery with us!
00:00 - 13:30ish Intros! What life has been like – we’re fake sponsored by HomeState Texas Kitchen in Los Angeles and Liquid Death water now. Lucas discusses trucker paradise, Bucky’s. It had been a hot minute for us even if there was no pause in your glorious releasing schedule so Cody decided to rank his friends based on how much he missed us.
13:30ish - 1:09:00ish What we watched over the last 6 weeks! Moonfall, Pan’s Labyrinth, Halloween Kills (Lucas finally did it!), Texas Chainsaw Massacre (‘22), the rest of the Texas Chainsaws as well (Curtis went whole hog), Turning Red (because we are men of multitudes), The Purge: Anarchy, Schindler’s List (Austin’s wife, Kaylin had COVID and she picked the movies for a minute… they’re WILD), Gladiator, My Cousin Vinny, Philadelphia, Malcolm X, Kingsman 1 & 2, Phantasm 1 & 2, The Cursed, Studio 666, Fresh, X, The Lord of the Rings Extended Editions (Lucas had a week), Hellraiser III, Fantastic Beasts 1 & 2, Yellowjackets, and then…
1:09:00ish - 1:35:00ish THE BATMAN. Three of us had seen Matt Reeves’ new Bat-flick three times before this discussion and we go DEEP. It’s horror-adjacent so don’t hate on us too much while we go through our emo leather and body armor phase.
1:35:00ish - THE WICKER MAN.

The Batman: A ShhhUDcast mini-episode
Friday Apr 29, 2022
Friday Apr 29, 2022
Shhh… keep it secret… this mini-episode is brought to you by all the goodness we stuff into our eyeballs that may or may not come from platforms other than our streaming savior, Shudder. Upon recording an upcoming episode on 1973’s THE WICKER MAN, we went long and hard regarding a recent release that we couldn’t idly let rest inside our larger episode discussion.
So with Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN, so is born the ShhhUDcast mini-episode! In these monstrous morsels you’ll hear about a title that we didn’t all discover on Shudder, but felt it integral for all you dear listeners to hear about anyway! Just, don’t tell Shudder… Or do! They’re not paying us (yet) and we could use them feeling like we’re seeing other streamers and want to enter an exclusive relationship with us.
So please enjoy this very animated, kink-enlightening discussion on THE BATMAN
